2015 Brazilian Antarctica Expedition: Scientific team led by Dr. Jefferson Simoes, Brazil's first glaciologist and the creator/director of the Polar Climate Centre at UFRGS. On December 27th, 2013, a Chinese icebreaker broke through the frozen sea to free the ship and a team of scientists who were trapped. The ship, with 74 people on board, had been trapped in ice about 100 nautical miles east of the French base Dumont D'Urville since December 24.
